This course is offered as both a year-long session as well as on the wheel (one trimester). The class focuses on understanding and applying media, techniques and processes as well as understanding the visual arts in relation to history and cultures. Topics covered include: specific concepts such as illusion of depth, size, palcement, overlapping, drawing techniques to render objects with highlights, shadows and a light source, vocabulary, development of studio habits and discovering art history movements and genres. The visual arts offer the richness of drawing and painting, sculpture/3D art and design.
Students integrate visual, spacial, and temporal concepts with content to communicate intended meaning in their artworks. Students use subjects, themes and symbols that demonstrate knowledge of contexts, values and aesthetics that communicate intended meaning in artworks.
